COURSES OF STUDY (BACHELOR OF ARTS)

The college, an affiliate of Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, presently offers Three Years as well as Four Years Undergraduate Program of study in Humanities in continuous Semester mode in accordance with the Syllabus and Courses prescribed by the Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh.

SUBJECTS OFFERED (B.A. First Semester):

The college offers Major courses in following subjects:

  • SUBJECT COMBINATION:

    I. A candidate has to choose from the seven subjects offered, as major paper which is to be studied from first semester till the VI semester. A candidate has to secure minimum 40% marks in the concerned subject opting for Major.

    II. A candidate has to opt one Minor subject and Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AEC), Value Added Course (VAC) and Skill Enhancement Course (same as major subject) (Please refer Table No. 1)

    III. Total of 100 seats are available in each subject.

    IV. Subject combination will not be changed after admission. For any confusion with regard to subject combination a candidate may consult the counseling committee before taking admission.

    2. COURSE STRUCTURE AT A GLANCE

    As per the RGU regulation the college is running Under Graduate course under three different academic curriculums simultaneously as per the details given below:

    A. FOUR YEARS UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMME w.e.f. 2023-24 (NEP 2020)

    New academic curriculum as per NEP 2020 for Under Graduate course is introduced in all RGU affiliated colleges from the academic session 2023-24. Following are the details of new academic curriculum

  • I. Four years degree course with multiple entry and exit.
  • II. Exiting after the completion of first year Under Graduate course a student will be awarded Under Graduate certificate with apprenticeship, scoring minimum of 40 credit points in first and second Semester.
  • III. Exiting after completion of second year Under Graduate course a student will be awarded Under Graduate diploma with apprenticeship, scoring minimum of 40 credit points in third and fourth Semester.
  • IV. Exiting after completion of third year Under Graduate course a student will be awarded Under Graduate degree in discipline, scoring minimum of 120 credit points from first to sixth Semester and will be eligible to pursue two years Post Graduate course.
  • V. On the completion of four years degree Under Graduate course a student scoring lower CGPA will be awarded Under Graduate degree with honors and will be eligible to pursue one year Post Graduate course.
  • VI. On the completion of four years degree Under Graduate course a student scoring higher CGPA (more than 7.5 or 8.0) will be awarded Under Graduate degree with research and will be eligible to pursue Ph.D at RGU.
  • VII. Creation of Academic Bank of Credit ID using Digilocker portal or application by the student is mandatory for course registration.
  • VIII. The course content of NEP 2023-24 are:
  • a) Major course: A course which shall compulsorily be studied by a candidate as a major subject from the subjects offered in the College. There shall be 16 papers under major course of 4 credits each.
  • b) Minor course: A course of interdisciplinary nature chosen from an allied discipline/subject. Students shall choose 8 minor courses, one in each semester from 1st to 8th semester of 4 credits each.
  • c) Multi disciplinary course: A student is not allowed to choose courses undergone discipline in 12th standards and the disciplines they have enrolled for major and minor courses.
  • d) Ability Enhancement Course (AEC): Ability Enhancement Courses include Modern Indian Language Communication English/Hindi/any regional language in the first and second Semester of 4 credits.
  • e) Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): The students shall select SEC, from other allied/cognate disciplines in order to fulfill the mandatory requirement of minimum 9 credits, SEC shall be offered in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester.
  • f) Value added course: there will be three value added papers from 1st to 3rd semester of 6 credits.
  • g) Internship/apprenticeship: A student has to undergo internship/apprenticeship during the summer time under a mentor to exit after first year (second semester) with certificate course. A student has to undergo internship during the summer time under a mentor to exit after second year (fourth semester) with diploma course.

    B. CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM w.e.f. 2021-22 (CBCS)

    Based on the Rajiv Gandhi University, Regulations for Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for under graduate curriculum 2021. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been introduced in the college from the academic session 2021-22. The course contents are given below.

    I. Core Courses (CC): A course which shall compulsorily be studied by a candidate as a Core requirement (from the subjects offered in the College). There shall be 14 papers under Core course of 6 credits each

    II. Generic Elective Courses (GEC): An elective course of interdisciplinary nature chosen from an allied discipline/subject. Students shall choose 4 GEC, one in each semester from 1st to 4th semester.

    III. Discipline Specific Elective Courses (DSE): Elective course is offered in V and VI semester (Two papers per Semester) under the main discipline/subject of study.

    IV. Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC): Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses include Modern Indian Language Communication English/Hindi in the first Semester and Environmental Studies for Arts in the second semester.

    V. Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): The students shall opt 2 SEC, from other allied/cognate disciplines in order to fulfill the mandatory requirement of minimum 8 credits, SEC shall be offered in the 3rd and 4th semester.
